IMPORTANT ADVISORY CSC - Medicare 9201 Errors
On 30 June 2015, we sent an announcement out in relation to Medicare having changed their rules when dealing with patient / claimant names in their online claims. While these changes were removed by Medicare at the time, they advised they were intending to re-introduce these changes again. As at 29th August, these changes were re-introduced for online claims.
To re-touch on the details, this change means that a patient's (or claimant's) name must appear in a claim exactly how it appears on their Medicare card. Special care and attention must also be paid to 'special' characters in a name (eg Apostrophes and Hyphens) to ensure there are no spaces between those and the regular letters of the name, eg. O'Malley is permitted, but O' Malley or O 'Malley (with a space either before or after the apostrophe) will cause errors.
No other special characters (eg Brackets) are allowed to be used, eg. "Alexander (Jnr)" would cause errors.
In the event the new rules for special characters are not followed, the claim will not successfully transmit. Typically, you will receive error "9201: Invalid format for data item" when transmitting the claim. If this occurs with a Bulk Bill claim, then none of the patients on the claim will transmit, and you will need to contact CSC support. For standard patient claiming, you can simply correct the patient's details and re-send the claim.
To minimise the number of rejections and to avoid delays in your claiming, CSC recommends all clients check and verify their patients’ name details on arrival and amend any incorrect data before transmitting the claim.
If you do receive a ‘9201’ rejection for a Bulk Billing claim, please do not attempt to correct it yourself, nor rebill the claims until a practiX support consultant has investigated the issue.

IMPORTANT ADVISORY CSC - Medicare Online De-Support
From the 1st of July 2015 the Department of Human Services will be de-supporting older versions of the Medicare Online Adaptor. If you are currently, or intend to start, using any of the Medicare Online functionality, practiX version 1.43.1 is required.
Version 1.43.1 was released in November 2014 and if your practice is on version 1.42 or lower, please organise an upgrade of your practiX software well before the 1st of July. Failure to upgrade to 1.43.1 by the 1st of July will result in electronic claiming and related services through Medicare Online to cease.
Medicare Online functionality includes ACIR, Medicare/Health Fund eligibility checks, Medicare or DVA bulkbill claiming, Eclipse and patient claiming.

Workcover QLD and AMA fee updates available
The Workcover QLD and AMA price updates are now available to download in practiX. To download the price updates go to practiX - Administration - System Configuration - Billing Setup - "Price Update - Published File".
For Workcover QLD select "Workcover QLD" from the drop-down list and click on the "Process" button. (If you require the new item numbers to be added then select 'Add All Available Itemcodes' before processing).
For AMA select "AMA" from the drop-down list and click on the "Process" button. (If you require the new item numbers to be added then select 'Add All Available Itemcodes' before processing).
IMPORTANT ADVISORY - 1.43.1 Upgrade
Medicare have introduced new privacy declarations which need to be in use by the 1st of March 2015. practiX Version 1.43.1 is now available which incorporates these changes. If you use Medicare online for any type of billing you will be required to upgrade practiX before this date. November 1st 2014 MBS (Schedule fee) update is available
